VU Biobank

We built the sample-management system and the public participant platform for the Biobank of Lithuanian Population and Rare Disorders at Vilnius University, and took it to #2 organic search in the country.

The challenge
A biobank needs scientific rigour, and enough people to make the science matter.
Biomedical research depends on two things at once: rigorously managed samples and enough participants to make the data meaningful. That means cataloguing sensitive biological samples under strict consent, ethics, and data-security rules, while recruiting thousands of ordinary residents and being easy for them to find.
The Biobank of Lithuanian Population and Rare Disorders opened at Vilnius University's Medical Science Centre as the country's first national population and rare-disease biobank. It needed a platform that could handle samples with full rigour and bring participants in at scale.

By its first anniversary, the biobank had gathered 30,000+ samples from more than a thousand donors, the scale the platform was built to support. It runs at biobankas.mf.vu.lt.
